Mad Science can enhance your school’s science programme with inquiry-based workshops that meet curriculum requirements! Structured as an in-class field trip, a Mad Science workshop is a convenient way to offer pupils a hands-on science experience without leaving the school. With professional lesson plans, unique equipment and animated instructors, Mad Science workshops offer truly engaging learning experiences to all nursery to year 6 children. Dozens of workshop topics are available and can be tailored to meet your school’s individual needs.
Dry Ice: Explore the 3 states of matter. Turn water to ice in 30 seconds, build a giant bubbling potion, carbonate plain drinking water and create the same awesome smoke illusions used in the movies
Matter of Fact: Investigate the ingredients of the universe! Build your own marshmallow molecules! Play Alchemist, turning nickel into gold (well, almost). Use our secret formula to make your own Mad Science Putty!
Space: The Final Frontier: The voyages of young inquiring minds on a quest to discover Space! Their mission: to take an exciting look at planets, moons, comets, and the stars… to boldly go where young minds love to go. (Space suits not required.) Children will return from their mission with their own piece of the skies!
Watts-Up: Learn about electricity, its properties and its role in natural phenomena. Make indoor lightning while conducting hair-raising experiments with our electro-static generator.
Magnetic Magic: Investigate the powers and daily uses of magnets. Test for electro magnetic fields and then use what you have learned to build your own electro magnet…
Lights … Colour… Action! Uncover the hidden components in ordinary light and build your own Newton’s colour wheel to prove it. Attend a spectacular chemical energy display!
Sonic Sounds: Discover sound, sound waves and the way household items can be used to create amazing movie effects. Use our multi-effects processor to make a tape of your altered voice, with cool special effects…
Fun- damental Forces: Gravity, Inertia, Centripetal force: who could imagine that an introduction to physics could be so much fun? We’ll experience these awesome forces for ourselves and build some cool devices to watch them at work!
Digging for Dinosaurs: Dinosaurs are always a huge hit with children, especially pre-school age. They will be introduced to the differences between meat eating and plant eating animals and will have the opportunity to look at some dinosaur teeth up close. They will also work as palaeontologists by participating in a mini dinosaur dig that will engage their attention as well as their scientific skills.
Nursery and reception Workshops
Mad Science Nursery and Reception Programmes are engaging hands-on learning experiences for children aged 3-5. Each workshop is an interactive, age-appropriate exploration of a specific science topic. Exploring topics such as dinosaurs, air, light, colour, water, weather and worms, each themed program is designed to captivate the curious nature of young children. Children enjoy engaging demonstrations, perform simple experiments and will discover how science can help us better understand the world around us!
